Definition
CD-ROM means Compact Disc-Read Only Memory.
Track
CD-ROMS are organized in a single track that spirals from
the center of the disk to its outside.
The Pits
The data is recorded as a series of pits burned into the underside
surface of the platter.
The Laser
A laser beam is used to detect whether specific points on a disk
are pitted or not and that information is translated into data that
your computer can read.
Speed
CD-ROM drives are grouped by transfer speed, with a 150Kb/second
called a single speed, 300 Kb/second called a double speed(2X),
up to today's standard of 40X.
